Change In Population, 1990-2000 In Relationship to Employment, 2000: State of Connecticut (Prepared March, 2003)

The focus of this document is on change in population between 1990 and 2000 relative to employment in 2000. The narrative, two maps and table take a preliminary look at sprawl between 1990 and 2000 in the State of Connecticut. The narrative discusses the purpose, methodology and observations of the maps and tables. The two maps show the population change between 1990 and 2000 by Census Block Group. However, the primary map illustrates this population change along with town-level employment figures in 2000; the secondary map shows only the population change with the boundaries of the Census Block Groups. To support the maps, the document includes a table of town-level population and employment figures for 1990 and 2000.

The Demographics of Connecticut's South Western Region by Transportation Analysis Zone

The following report presents the demographic characteristics of Connecticut's South Western Region by Transportation Analysis Zone (TAZ). TAZs offers more detail than Census Tracts and have more recognizable boundaries than Census Block Groups. The document contains ten maps that illustrate the population, major age groups and racial composition in the Region.  The maps reveal that the demographics vary substantially within the municipalities.

Connecticut's South Western Region: Population by Age, 1990-2000

This report examines the age composition of Connecticut's South Western Region in 1990 and 2000 at the town and regional level.  Even though the region's population increased by a modest 7.2 percent, the population of some age groups changed dramatically.  This information is displayed in tables and illustrations accompanied by a brief narrative.

Demographic Profiles for the State of Connecticut, Counties, and Municipalities: Census 2000

The U.S. Census Bureau has released a series of demographic profiles based on the Census Standard File 1 (SF-1).  The SF-1 file contains information included on the short form of the 2000 Census survey.  The demographic profile information includes detailed information on population age cohorts, household type, household tenure, household relationships, etc. These demographic profiles are only available at the State, County and Municipal geographic levels.

The files below were derived from digital files (PDF & ASCII) from the following web site: http://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/2001/demoprofile.html

Population by Race and Ethnicity, Census 2000 Census Tracts,
South Western Region

The U.S. Census Bureau recently released Census 2000 Redistricting Data (P.L. 94-171) Summary File, which includes total population, race and Hispanic/Latino counts for the State of Connecticut.  These statistics are often analyzed at the town and tract level.  SWRPA participates in the Census Bureau's State Data Center (SDC) Program in Connecticut and receives frequent requests for this information.

To publicize Census 2000 data, SWRPA staff generated a report that shows the population figures for every tract in each town in the South Western Region.  In addition, the report includes total figures for member towns and the South Western Region.  The data for the report is available as an Excel 97 file and two ArcView shape files.  Users may download these files to produce their own reports, tables, charts and maps.
